• Renaissance d'un littoral: quand Agoué se mobilise pour ses mangroves

    — Marie Koutou Thanks to La Petite Colline Benin, we were able to strengthen the capacities of young people so that they become agents of change in their community. Our commitment has improved the quality of life of many communities across Benin. Establishing and maintaining peace, fighting against poverty and other situations of vulnerability, and protecting the environment are principles that are stated in the fundamental law of most countries in the world. But such a mission cannot be solely the responsibility of the State, because even though it exercises its prerogatives, it also strives, through various legal provisions, to create the conditions to allow various organizations or structures to invest in the same direction. LPC-BENIN unites its members driven by the same ideal, to create bonds of understanding and solidarity among them to participate in education, good governance, and contribute to environmental protection.

    Au sud-ouest du Bénin, dans la commune de Grand-Popo, se niche Agoué, un territoire où la mer et la lagune entretiennent depuis des siècles une relation éroite avec les habitants. Ici, les mangroves ne sont pas seulement des arbres: elles sont un patrimoine vivant, un refuge pour la biodiverité, une protection naturelle contre les assauts de l'océan et une source de subsistance pour des générations de pêcheurs, de femmes transformatrices et de familles riveraines.

    Mais ce fragile équilibre est aujourd'hui menacé. Chaque année, des pans entiers de cette forêt palétuvienne disparaissent, emportant avec eux un peu de l'âme du territoire et fragilisant celles et ceux qui en dépendent.

    C'est face à ce constat que l'association La Petite Colline Bénin a souhaité répondre présent, aux côtés de la communauté.

    Au cœur du Bénin, les collines du Centre abritent des écosystèmes uniques, aujourd’hui menacés par l’érosion et la dégradation des sols. Face à ce constat, l’association La Petite Colline Bénin s’engage aux côtés des habitants pour restaurer ces milieux fragiles et leur redonner leur rôle de rempart naturel. Le projet repose sur une conviction forte : protéger son environnement est d’abord une affaire de lien social. Femmes, jeunes, agriculteurs et aînés seront ainsi au cœur de l’action, participant à la création d’une barrière végétale stabilisatrice tout en renforçant leurs capacités et en valorisant les savoirs traditionnels. Soutenir ce projet, c’est agir concrètement pour la lutte contre la désertification, la préservation de la biodiversité et l’adaptation au changement climatique, en favorisant un modèle participatif, durable et reproductible pour d’autres régions confrontées aux mêmes défis.
